The Faroe Islands may be equally successful as Cyprus
Last week Pierantonios Papazoglou from The Cyprus Institute visited the Research Council Faroe Islands. The Cyprus Institute has succeeded in securing millions of Euros in research funding from external sources. Something the Faroe Islands may follow with the participation in Horizon 2020 projects.
Cyprus is a small country and although far away, there are similarities. Pierantonios Papazoglou was here to inspire, to compare and to show us, how it may be done.
There is good potential in and around the Faroe Islands. The country is located at a point of interest for several research areas and it has good research potential.
When looking at how Cyprus has developed in the past two decades, we were able to ‘dream’ about the future.
In the two meetings that where arranged for this visit, special focus was on the new EMME-CARE Centre (Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East – Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre) and the road to become successful in a proposal for a Centre of Excellence.
Inspired by the nature, Pierantonios Papazoglou ended his eminent presentation by showing us a dream about an OCEAN Centre of Excellence in the Faroe Islands.
The people who attended the meetings were representatives from ministries and departments, the university and research institutions.
