The Faroe Islands become COST Near Neighbour Country
The COST Association has voted in favor of the Faroe Islands to join COST as Near Neighbour Country. Joining COST makes Faroese researchers eligible to participate in COST activities.
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding organisation for research and innovation networks. COST Actions help connect research initiatives across Europe and beyond and enable researchers and innovators to grow their ideas in any science and technology field by sharing them with their peers. COST Actions are bottom-up networks with a duration of four years that boost research, innovation and careers.
A successful COST Awareness event was held in Tórshavn earlier this year. At the event representatives from COST gave the Faroese research community insight to the opportunities COST has to offer. As part of the visit, a preparatory meeting was held at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Culture paving the way for a closer cooperation between COST and the Faroe Islands.
COST and the European Commission work in close collaboration with an inclusive approach towards all countries in Horizon Europe.
Since 2010 the Faroe Islands have been associated to European Framework for Research and Innovation. The Agreement on Faroese association to Horizon Europe 2021-2027 was signed in May 2022 and now the Faroe Islands have become COST Near Neighbour Country.
