Significantly more Foreign Researchers at the University
Significantly more foreign staff members are now at the University of the Faroe Islands after the Faroese Immigration Office took over responsibility for immigration affairs. All applications for permanent and temporary residence and work permits for researchers and their accompanying families are now processed by the Immigration Office which makes it much easier to employ foreigners.
It has also become significantly easier to recruit staff from EU countries since the University of the Faroe Islands was pre-approved to employ EU citizens from one day to the next.
There are especially many postdocs from other countries now working at the University for shorter periods.
Foreign researchers are now working in most departments at the University of the Faroe Islands. In particular, the Faculty of Science and Technology has recently seen an increase in foreign researchers. In December Peter Freere from Australia was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
On the Faroese EURAXESS portal, several foreign researchers share their experiences of living and working in the Faroe Islands. One of them is Robert Imre from Canada, Associate Professor at the Department of History and Social Sciences, who came to the Faroe Islands just over a year ago. His testimonial, along with those of other foreign researchers, can be read here: EURAXESS | (at the bottom of the page).
