Continued Funding from Denmark for Research in the North Atlantic
Anna Falkenberg, Member of the Danish Parliament for Sambandsflokkurin - the Union Party - , has reached an agreement with the Danish government for continued funding of research programs in the North Atlantic.
She announced this today in connection with the publication of the agreement on the Danish state budget for the coming years.
Funding for research in foreign affairs, security, and defense policy will be extended by two years and increased from 2 million to 4 million DKK annually for the years 2027 and 2028.
Funding for marine research around the Faroe Islands and in the North Atlantic will be extended by one year with 8 million DKK allocated for the year 2028.
Previously, agreements were made for funding for the years 2025 to 2027.
In connection with the agreement, Anna Falkenberg stated that funding for marine research has long been a priority for the Union Party in the Danish Parliament.
"The climate crisis is a global challenge that must be solved collectively! – but this is part of the Faroese initiative to take responsibility for our surroundings," said the Union Party's member of parliament.
The Research Council administers both grants, which are referred to as FASDiNA og MARiNAO, respectively.
For both research programmes, it is stipulated that the funding must be allocated to collaborative research efforts between the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Denmark.
